Northampton, MA - Women's Cross Country opened its season at the Smith Invitational in Northampton, MA.  Battling the extreme heat, the team combined for a ninth place finish behind Meghan Woods (Hanover, MA) (23rd; 21:36.75) who was WPI's top runner.

Marissa Gray (Stanley, NY) placed 60th (23:00.23) while Beth Hegarty (Springfield, MA) took a 78th (23:30.25) place finish.  Michelle Maurice (Wolcott, CT), Catie Casey (Plymouth, MA), Anne Rocheleau (Shrewsbury, MA) and Stacey Rauen (San Gabriel, CA) finished 81st (23:34.52), 94th (24:06.46), 102nd (24:49.50), and 122nd (25:58.72) respectively for the Engineers.

The Engineers Cup, run versus MIT and Renssalear, was also at stake as MIT took the top honors while winning the overall meet as well.

Women's Cross Country will travel to the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday for a meet beginning at 10:30am.
