Five Men’s Cross Country Runners Named To NEWMAC All-Academic Team

Babson Park, MA --- Five WPI student-athletes have been selected to the 2007-08 NEWMAC Men’s Cross County All-Academic Team. The Engineers were tied with Coast Guard for the second most number of players named to the team, behind MIT.

Eric Connelly (Tucson, AZ), Kevin Jillson (East Sandwich, MA), Garret Doe (Derry, NH), Daniel Duffty (Haverhill, MA) and Kurtis McCannell (Monmouth, ME) were the runners honored representing WPI. Jillson and Connelly were also recognized on the All-Academic Team last year.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2007 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

The NEWMAC consists of 10 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

WPI is back in action this Saturday at the ECAC Championships which will be held at Williams. The action begins at 11am.
