Six Women’s Cross Country Teammates Selected On NEWMAC All-Academic Team

Babson Park, MA --- Six WPI student-athletes from the women's cross country team have been named to the 2007-08 NEWMAC All-Academic Team. WPI tied with Mount Holyoke for the third most number of athletes honored in the conference behind MIT, Smith and Wellesley.

Catie Casey (Plymouth, MA), Jennifer Himottu (Stearling, MA), Marissa Gray (Stanley, NY), Megan Woods (Hanover, MA), Beth Hagarty (Springfield, MA) and Danielle Volpe (Chelmsford, MA) were the runners honored representing WPI. Casey, Gray and Woods were also recognized on the All-Academic Team last year.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2007 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

The NEWMAC consists of 10 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

The Boynton Hillers will be back in action when they compete in the ECAC Tournament at Williams on Saturday. The race is scheduled for a 11am start.
