Chris Gabrielson Named To NEWMAC Mens Cross Country All-Conference Team
Chris Gabrielson
Babson Park, MA --- With a 14th place finish at this past weekend's NEWMAC Championships, sophomore Chris Gabrielson has been selected to the NEWMAC All-Conference team. Battling stormy weather conditions, Gabrielson finished the 8k course at Smith in a time of 27:06 to help the Engineers placed fourth overall in a field of seven teams.
A native of Westford, MA, Gabrielson was named NEWMAC Runner of the Week twice this season after second place finishes at the Tri-States Invitational and Worcester City Championships.
Additionally, the WPI team captured the Sportsmanship Award, voted on by NEWMAC men's cross country student-athletes. It marks the first time a WPI squad has been honored with the award since it was established in the Fall of 2006.
At the NEWMAC Championships, MIT placed eight of the top ten finishers as they took the event with 18 points. Junior Jake Ruzevick (Coronado, CA, 25:58) was named NEWMAC Runner of the Year and freshman Gihan Amarasiriwardena (Amherst, MA, 26:43) was named Rookie of the Year for MIT.
The men's cross country team will travel to Williams for the ECAC Championships next Saturday. The starting gun will fire at 11am.
