Westwood, MA --- WPI seniors Logan O'Donnell (Fishkill, NY), Victoria Mirecki (Washingtonville, NY), Peter Fagerholm (Sandy Hook, CT), and junior Sarah MacDonald (Yorktown Heights, NY) were named to their respective NEWMAC sportsmanship teams following the winter championship season.
O'Donnell and Victoria Mirecki represented men's and women's basketball, respectively, while Fagerholm and MacDonald were the men's and women's swimming & diving selections.
What the coaches are saying:
Men's Basketball head coach Chris Bartley on Logan O'Donnell – " Logan played a key role in a great season for WPI Basketball. He developed an aggressive style of play but did so in a first-class manner."
Women's Basketball head coach Cherise Galasso on Victoria Mirecki – "Victoria was a unanimous selection from our program for the NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team this season. Not only is she a leader for our team, she also competes at the highest level on the court every day, while playing the game with the utmost respect for her opponent. Whether that respect was as clear as helping an opponent up off the floor, or as obscure as defending them hard on defense, Victoria's actions represented our program and conference with class and integrity."
Swimming & Diving head coach Paul Bennett on Sarah MacDonald and Peter Fagerholm – "Both Sarah and Peter epitomize the ideals of sportsmanship as representatives of the WPI Swimming and Diving program. While each of them is a fierce competitor and driven to be better, they both support the efforts of those they work with and against in both practice and competition. I couldn't be more proud of their accomplishments!"
Now in its fifth year, the NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team award is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each institution in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of their overall performance or statistics for the season.
