Westwood, MA --- WPI junior David Larson (Port Tobacco, MD) and senior Dominic Fusco (North Haven, CT) have secured NEWMAC baseball weekly awards, as announced Monday afternoon. Larson was named as the co-athlete of the week along with Coast Guard senior Jeremy Lhotka (Orange Park, FL) while Fusco was selected as the league's pitcher of the week.
Larson batted .500 with six extra-base hits and two home runs to go with nine walks, a 1.214 slugging and .696 on-base percentage. He also allowed only one run and struck out 14 in a pair of wins. The junior posted two hits in a pair of games and helped his own cause, and opened the floodgates, on Saturday with a home run in the second inning of the day.
Fusco pitched four perfect innings and struck out 11 of the 12 batters he faced while earning the save in a trio of one-run games. He made his season debut with a save on Monday versus Waynesburg (PA) and then closed out both games of a doubleheader against Wentworth Wednesday. Fusco later finished the week on the mound for the Engineers where he struck out two of the final three batters of the trip. ,
Larson collected the athlete honors the same week a year ago while Fusco is the first pitcher since Steven D'Agostino, who earned the accolade for the week ending April 1, 2018.
Baseball (9-1) is set to host Brandeis at 3:30pm Thursday at the New England Baseball Complex.
