Pitching coach Matt Weagle enters his ninth season as an assistant for WPI in 2023.
The Charlton, MA product was college teammates with WPI head coach Mike Callahan and former assistant Chris Shank while at Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire. During his junior year, Weagle was selected as first team All-American in 2003.
Following three seasons at Franklin Pierce, Weagle entered the 2003 MLB Amateur Draft and was selected in the sixth round by the St. Louis Cardinals.
In 2015, Weagle also served as the Women's Team USA National Baseball pitching coach that took home the gold medal in the Pan-Am games in Toronto. This was the first time the USA had fielded a women's baseball team in the games and they dominated going 5-0 and beating Canada in the gold medal game 11-3.
Weagle was a member of the Worcester Tornadoes and in 2009 served a dual role as a player and pitching coach. He also spent one season as an assistant at Holy Cross prior to donning the Crimson and Gray.
Weagle also works as part-owner of his family restaurant, Pleasant Street Grille in Worcester.
