Wigley Nets OT Game-Winner as Field Hockey Stuns Western New England

Springfield, MA --- Sophomore midfielder Danielle Antonellis (Duxbury, MA) set up freshman forward Maggie Wigley (Bridgewater, MA) with the game-winning goal as WPI from behind to beat the Western New England College field hockey team 3-2 in overtime in a non-league contest at Golden Bear Stadium.

Western New England College (0-5) had a 2-1 lead with seven minutes to play in the second half, but couldn't stop the speedy Engineer offense as sophomore forward Emily Pearce (Avon, CT) quickly tied the game one minute later.

WPI (4-1) got out in front first as freshman forward Megan Read (Wrentham, MA) notched her first collegiate goal in the 20th minute.

Junior forward Katy Vogl (Cazenovia, NY) tied it off a penalty corner in the first half and junior forward Kaela Jalbert (Turner, ME) got the go ahead goal in the 62nd minute. Freshman defenseman Laura Madaio (Paxton, MA) got credit for the assist.

The Engineers out shot WNEC 19-13, including 12-5 in the second half.

WPI senior goalie Allie Griffin (Billerica, MA) finished with eight saves. 

Sophomore goalie Lindsey Orzsulak (Longmeadow, MA) had seven for the Golden Bears.
