Dudley, MA - The Nichols College field hockey team kept its perfect season going with a 2-1 home victory over WPI Tuesday evening. The Bison set a program record with their 10th consecutive victory, eclipsing the previous record set in 1996. WPI dips to 7-2 on the year.

Nichols sophomore Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, MA) put the Bison on the board with 25 seconds left in the first frame, knocking in a rebound to send the home team into the break with a one-goal advantage. The frame had started as a defensive struggle, but Nichols came alive at the midpoint to post eight shots on Engineers' keeper Allie Griffin (Billerica, MA) by the buzzer.

The Bison kept the momentum going into the second half, as first year Emily Widdison (Greenfield, MA) gave Nichols a two-goal lead in the 47th minute. She grabbed a loose ball off a deflected clear attempt and fired from inside the right side of the arc, sending her shot into the left corner of the net.

The Engineers made their shots count in the game, tagging Nichols goalkeeper Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, MA) in the 60th minute to cut the Bison's lead in half on one of two shots on goal. Senior Jackie McDonough (Winchester, MA) took aim from the top of the arc on a penalty corner, and Meghan Linskey (Bridgewater, Mass.) was at the right post to tip the ball past Forand at 59:23. Forand made one save for her 10th win of the season, while Griffin stopped 11 shots in the loss.

Nichols takes a break from action until October 7 when the Bison travel to Anna Maria for a 7pm CCC match. WPI hosts Clark Saturday in a 1pm. NEWMAC tilt.
