Worcester, MA --- Western New England's freshman Jaynie Mueller (Colorado Springs, CO) netted a goal and an assist to lift the visiting Golden Bears to a 2-0 victory over WPI in a non-conference field hockey contest on Tuesday afternoon.  With the result, Western New England improves to 2-4 while WPI dips to 3-2 on the season.

Western New England had the better of the action in the opening minutes and eventually earned a penalty stroke at 5:51 that was stopped by WPI goalkeeper Aly Caceres (Fall River, MA).  The Golden Bears continued to apply pressure and saw Mueller rattle off three straight shots, two of which cleared off the line by Katye Milligan (Skowhegan, ME), before being awarded another penalty stroke.  This time Mueller took the stroke and deposited it into the net for a 1-0 advantage at 28:52.

WPI then seized momentum with three straight shots before the half that were all turned away by Western New England netminder Brittney Brown (Carver, MA).  The Engineers thought they tied the game with 10 minutes left in regulation but had the goal waived off.  The Golden Bears sealed the victory with 29 seconds remaining when Aimee O'Connell (Rome, NY) tapped in a cross from Mueller.

For the game Western New England had a slight 13-11 edge in shots while WPI held a slim 10-9 advantage in penalty corners.   O'Brien made eight saves en route to earning her first collegiate win while Caceres turned away six shots for the Engineers.

WPI continues its five-game homestand on Thursday hosting Becker at 7pm in a non-conference affair.  Western New England is back in action on Saturday, traveling to Endicott for a 1pm CCC contest.
