Wellesley, MA --- Sophomore Emily Lewis (Weston, CT) scored five goals to lead the Wellesley College field hockey team to a 6-1 victory over WPI in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon. The win improves Wellesley 3-4 in NEWMAC play (5-9 overall), while the Engineers fall to 0-7 NEWMAC play (4-10 overall).

Lewis had a career-high of five goals and one assist for a total of 11 points. She scored the Blue's first goal ten minutes into the first half from an assist from sophomore Whitney Reid (Bensalem, PA). Following that, senior Sally Scudder passed the ball to Lewis who was set up at the right post to score the Blue's second goal. Junior Celena Dopart (Washington, DC) answered for the Engineers by putting in a goal off an assist from senior Meghan Linskey (Bridgewater, MA). WPI's goal ended the first half with a score of 2-1.

In the second half Lewis knocked in three goals to put the game out of reach.  After two deflected goals credited to Lewis, her fifth came when she inserted a penalty corner to senior Kate Cushing (Danvers, MA) at the top of the circle who passed it back to Lewis for the tally. A few minutes later, Cushing scored the final goal for the Blue off a penalty corner insertion from Lewis, which set the final score to 6-1.

Wellesley controlled the action for most of the game, out shooting WPI 25 to 2.  The Blue also posted a 15-0 edge in penalty corners.

Senior goalkeeper Sarina Sawyer had one save in the game for the Blue, while first year goalkeeper Liz Dufresne (Worcester, MA) had seven saves in net for WPI.  The Engineers also got two defensive saves in the contest, as junior Caitlin Kelley (Saratoga Springs, NY) and sophomore Madison Shugrue (Worcester, MA) each picked up stops.

The Blue are back in action on Tuesday at 4pm, traveling to Endicott College. The Engineers will next travel to Simmons College on Wednesday for a 7pm game.
