Misera and Richardson Help Field Hockey Start the Season on a Winning Note

Newton, MA-- The WPI Field Hockey team got goals from three different scorers as the Engineers topped Lasell on a sun splashed day at Grellier Field on Saturday. With the victory, WPI remains undefeated in season openers under sixth year head coach Lisa Moreau.

The freshman duo of Caroline Mazzola (Harvard, MA) and Amy Misera (Hunt Valley, MD) got the Engineers scoring started when Mazzola netted a goal on a pass from Misera at 7:13 of the first half.

Freshman Nikita Soares (Westport, MA) got the Lasers on the board when she scored her first goal of the season, unassisted at 18:14 of the first half.

Misera would put WPI ahead for good as she netted the first goal of her young career at the 37:41 mark of the second half assisted by Libbi Richardson (Uxbridge, MA). The Crimson and Gray would add to their lead at 42:33 mark when Richardson notched her first goal of the season. Richardson and Misera finished the day with three points each.

The Engineers enjoyed a 21-12 shot advantaged on the afternoon and goalkeeper Liz Dufresne (Worcester, MA) turned away six of the seven shots on net. 

WPI will take to the field again for its home opener against Bridgewater State on Tuesday at 7pm.
