Dufresne Tallies 10 Stops as Field Hockey is Blanked by Babson

Worcester, MA --- Morgan Lockwood (Feeding Hills, MA) notched two goals as the visiting Beavers defeated WPI 3-0 in a NEWMAC field hockey contest played on Saturday afternoon.  Babson is now 6-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play while the host Engineers are 4-4 overall and 1-1 in NEWMAC play. 

Lockwood broke up a scoreless dual midway through the first half when she emerged from a scrum in front of the WPI net and poked home a goal following a feed by Caroline Malone (Walpole, MA) at 21:10.  The opening stanza was tightly contested with the visiting Beavers taking five of the half's eight shots.  

Babson came out possessed in the second half and tallied two goals in under four minutes to secure the victory.  Kelly Walsh (Gardner, MA) buried a cross from Julia Pochini (Acton, MA) for her eighth marker of the season at 52:41 before Lockwood popped home her second of the game and 11th of the season off a pass by Elizabeth Holmes (Southboro, MA) at 56:22. 

Kayla Florence (Milton, MA) and Kayla Costa (Watertown, MA) combined in net to post the shutout for Babson.  Florence worked the first 56:22 and was credited with four stops en route to earning the victory.  Costa played the final 13:38 and turned away two shots. 

WPI junior Liz Dufresne (Worcester, MA) was strong in net for the Engineers, making 10 saves  Classmate Libbi Richardson (Uxbridge, MA) led the Crimson and Gray with three shots offensively while senior tri-captain Megan Read (Wrentham, MA) chipped in with two. 

Babson outshot the hosts 14-5 after intermission to enjoy a 19-8 bulge for the game.  The visitors also held a 9-4 edge in penalty corners. 

Both teams venture out of conference for home contests in their next outings.  WPI plays the fifth of sixth straight at Alumni Field, hosting Nichols at 7pm on Tuesday while Babson is back at it hosting Bates at 1pm on Sunday.
