Misera's Magic Push Field Hockey's Opening Streak to Five

Worcester, MA --- Junior Amy Misera (Hunt Valley, MD) scored a pair of goals in a span of 1:19 midway through the first half to help WPI remain undefeated courtesy of a 4-0 win over Elms in a Saturday afternoon non-conference matchup at Alumni Stadium. 

The Engineers 5-0 record is the best start since the opening of the 2006 campaign. 

Misera knocked home a feed from senior Nicole Holmes (Plymouth, MA) at 15:12 and followed it up with an unassisted marker at 16:31. Junior Caroline Mazzola (Harvard, MA) made it 3-0 when she scored on a one-timer from senior Mary-Lee Barboza (Rochester, MA) at 36:03. 

Elms senior Imogen Leonard (Sharon, MA) had her shot blocked prior to a penalty corner at 48:24. Later in the half, sophomore Allie Buckley (Worcester, MA) finished off a rebound at 61:58 to increase the Engineers advantage to 4-0. With under a minute to play, senior Meghan Goodrow (Sunderland, MA) logged the lone Blazer shot on goal, only to be saved by WPI junior goalkeeper Lauren Puishys (Oxford, MA). 

Junior netminder Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, NY) was strong in net for the visitors, making 15 stops for Blazers. 

The Engineers enjoyed a 30-2 advantage in shots, a 19-1 margin in shots-on-goal and were awarded 14 of the 15 penalty corners. 

WPI hosts Worcester State on Tuesday at 4:30pm while Elms (0-5) entertains Anna Maria on Tuesday at 4pm.
