Opalka Scores, Mushrall Stops 10 as No. 3 Babson Defeats Field Hockey

Babson Park, MA --- Sophomore Tori Roche (Andover, MA) scored a pair of second half goals in a span of 17 seconds to lead No. 3 Babson in a 3-1 victory over visiting WPI Saturday in a NEWMAC Field Hockey matchup at MacDowell Field.

The Beavers to 16-2 overall and 8-0 in league action. WPI, meanwhile, slips to 9-5 and 3-4.

Roche's first tally was unassisted at 39:42 and was helped by Ashley Tango (Reading, MA) at 39:59. Sophomore Carla DiBiase (Winchester, MA) also received an assist from Tango to deposit the first goal of the contest at 9:38.  

WPI scored at 59:01 when sophomore Paris Lopez (Smithfield, RI) lobbed in a shot, which was finished off by classmate Suzy Opalka (Harvard, MA).

Junior Karen Mushrall (Mariaville, ME) made 10 saves for WPI while sophomore Deirdre Barry (Longmeadow, MA) did not make a stop for Babson.

The Beavers outshot the Engineers 25-2 and were awarded 14 of 19 penalty corners, including all eight in the first half.

WPI travels to Fitchburg State for a 4pm start on Tuesday while Babson treks to University of New England for a 5pm regional showdown on Wednesday.
