Beverly, MA --- Jenna Seibold (Reading, MA) netted a goal in each half as Endicott spoiled the season debut of WPI field hockey by defeating the Engineers 3-0 in a non-conference match played Saturday afternoon.
WPI (0-1) posted a great defensive effort while being outshot 27-4. Junior goalkeeper Nini Acquista (Longmeadow, MA) recorded a dozen saves on 15 shots. Sophomore Lauren Meinhold (Boxboro, MA) chipped in with a third quarter defensive save.
The Gulls (1-0) struck first on a goal by Sydney Poulin (Watertown, MA) at the 10:27 mark in the first quarter after a pair of corner opportunities and shot attempts by the Engineers. WPI totaled four penalty corner attempts in the first quarter that did not flourish to a mark on the scoreboard.
Acquista tallied a trio of saves in the second quarter before Seibold connected to extend the hosting Gulls' lead to two that remained into the halftime break.
Acquista continued to stay in front as she made a pair of saves before Seibold executed for her second goal of the day to extend the lead to three over WPI (33:01) in the third quarter of play. Endicott continued the shooting spree as Acquista recorded half of her total saves for the Engineers in the final quarter of competition that resulted in 3-0 loss for Crimson and Gray.
Lauren Dishong (Milford, NH) accounted for both of WPI's shots on goal while Samantha Robison (Wretham, MA) and Emily Sollecito (Bedford, MA) also tallied shots on the day.
WPI will travel back to the North Shore on Thursday to take on Salem State for a slated 7pm start.
