Field Hockey Wins 10th Game of the Season as Engineers Shut Out Gordon

WPI Field Hockey 2021

Wenham, MA --- The WPI field hockey team won its 10th game of the 2021 season, shutting out Gordon in non-conference action on the road on Thursday night. The Engineers now stand 10-4 on the year, while the Fighting Scots drop to 1-9.

Eliza Dutson (Woodstock, CT) recorded a pair of goals for Engineers, her third straight game with two scores, and her sixth multi-goal game of the season. Natalie Mohn (Huntington, VT) dished out two assists on the night, her first two of the season.

WPI keepers Nini Acquista (Longmeadow, MA) and MC Shea (Ewing, NJ) teamed up for the clean sheet, with Acquista stopping both shots she faced in 45 minutes of action. Shea was untested in her 15 minutes between the pipes.

As a team, WPI allowed just three shots on the night, holding an 11-3 edge in the category, and posting its second straight shut-out. WPI also held a 9-0 advantage in penalty corners.

Lauren Dishong (Milford, NH) got the Engineers started late in the first quarter, scoring her ninth goal of the season off an assist from Mohn. That proved to be the only scoring of the first half, as WPI's 1-0 lead held into halftime.

Dutson doubled the lead midway through the third quarter, converting another Mohn assist into a 2-0 WPI advantage. The Engineers had a penalty corner in the final minute of the frame, but could not get off a shot.

WPI then put the game away for good in the fourth quarter, as the Crimson and Gray tacked on a pair to set the final to 4-0. Rachel Drasser (Lunenburg, MA) scored her third of the season off of an assist from Lauren Meinhold (Boxboro, MA), while Dutson rang up a penalty stroke for the fourth WPI goal of the night. The stroke was third in three games for the Engineers.

Gordon was paced by a pair of shots on goal from Cara Goudie (Wenham, MA), while Sophea Zaskoda (Lansdale, PA) posted seven saves in 60 minutes of action.

WPI jumps back into NEWMAC play on Saturday, playing at Wheaton at noon in a match dripping with conference tournament seeding implications. Gordon plays a CCC game at Western New England on Saturday at 6pm.
