Hartford, CT --- The WPI field hockey team fell to a top-five opponent in Trinity on Wednesday night, 4-1. Lauren Coutu (Baldwinville, MA) netted the lone goal of the game for the Engineers in the loss.
Trinity (3-0) tallied one goal in each of the quarters en route to the win led by a two-goal, one-assist effort from Katrina Winfield (Wilmington, DE). Jackie Frank (Longmeadow, MA) added a pair of goals for the Bantams in the win. Coutu's goal was her first goal of the season and first of her young career for WPI (2-4).
Frank got the goal-scoring going in the first quarter of action for Trinity as Winfield picked up her helper in the 14th minute of action with time winding down in the period. The second quarter brought a fast goal for Trinity in the 22nd minute with Winfield netting her first goal of the night.
After the half, Winfield picked up her second goal of the night in just the 34th minute of action and the Bantams made it a 4-0 game early into the fourth quarter of action when Frank tallied her second goal of the night off of a penalty corner less than one minute into action.
WPI ruined the clean sheet when Coutu netted a goal in the 59th minute of action with some help from Holly Mason (Plymouth, NH) to round out the game.
Olivia McMichael (Glenside, PA) picked up the win for Trinity making two saves on three shots faced. Nini Acquista (Longmeadow, MA) faced 19 shots on the day from the Bantam offense making a season-best 15 saves and allowing the four goals. Her 15 saves rank third-most in her career (21 at Babson, Oct. 5, 2021 and 17 at Babson, Nov. 4, 2021).
The Engineers are back in action Saturday, Sept. 17 at Springfield at 4pm while Trinity returns to the pitch at Colby on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 12pm.
