Meinhold Strikes Twice as Field Hockey Upends Mount Holyoke 3-1

Lauren Meinhold - WPI Field Hockey 2022

South Hadley, MA --- Behind a pair of goals from Lauren Meinhold (Boxboro, MA) the WPI field hockey team remained undefeated in conference action Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Mount Holyoke.

The Engineers (4-5, 2-0 NEWMAC) rallied off 30 shots on the day, including 13 on goal, while capitalizing on three of their 11 penalty goal opportunities in the victory. Mount Holyoke (2-5, 0-2) managed four shots on the day, including a pair on goal, coming away with the lone score.

Meinhold got things going early utilizing the first penalty corner of the day to put the Engineers up 1-0 in the fourth minute of action. Sophomore Eliza Dutson (Woodstock, CT) kicked off the penalty corner opportunity finding Natalie Mohn (Huntington, VT) who trapped the ball for Meinhold who ripped in the opening mark.

After Mount Holyoke's Mollee Malboeuf (Fitchburg, MA) evened the score at one-apiece in the second quarter with some help from Phoebe Aaronson (Mountain View, CA), Dutson responded with her second goal of the game, with yet another early goal, this time in the third quarter of action.

Abbey Powers (Halifax, MA) and Samantha Robison (Wrentham, MA) connected early in the second half to bring the lead to 2-1 over the hosting Lyons. Before the end of the third quarter was over, WPI earned another goal as Robinson and Meinhold tacked on their second goal and assist of the game after taking advantage on a corner opportunity.

Nini Acquista (Longmeadow, MA) allowed the lone goal and made one save on the day while Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, MD) was challenged all day long making 10 saves.

WPI will look to keep its winning ways when the Engineers play host to Wellesley next Saturday, Oct. 1 at 11am while Mount Holyoke will return to the pitch on Tuesday night with a 7pm road, non-conference meeting at Albertus Magnus.
