Westwood, MA --- WPI men's basketball sophomore guard Aidan Callahan (Rowley, MA) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending on November 20th.
MIT's Spencer Lin (Menlo Park, CA) was named the league's Offensive Athlete of the Week as Callahan garnered defensive honors.
The sophomore guard took on the task of guarding a D3hoops.com Preseason All-American from UMaine Farmington who had 35 points the next day at Emmanuel and was held scoreless in the opening stint of action at No. 8 WPI in a 67-46 result at Harrington Auditorium in favor of the Engineers on Friday evening.
Two days later, Callahan limited the Saints' leading score to 15 points as the Crimson and Gray moved to 4-0 for the second straight year and 12th overall under 22-year head coach Chris Bartley.
Callahan's NEWMAC weekly recognition is the first of the 2022-2023 campaign for the program and the first since recent graduate Colin McNamara in late February.
The nationally ranked Engineers are set to host Fitchburg State tomorrow in Harrington Auditorium for a non-conference tilt slated for 6pm.
