Men’s Rowing Turns in a Top 10 Performance at the Prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta

Cambridge, MA --- WPI men's rowing had a pair of boats participating this weekend in the historic Head of The Charles Regatta.  The collegiate eight placed 10th and the club eight finished 25th in the 53rd annual event.  

The Varsity Eight clocked a time of 14:47.845 en route to its top ten finish out of 37 entries in the collegiate eight on Sunday.  The Crimson and Gray was edged for ninth by Division I UC Santa Barbara (14:47.547)  by less than three tenths of a second and was within striking distance of Division I MIT (7th - 14:40.909).  Virginia captured the gold medal in a time 14:24.211 while St. Joseph's grabbed the silver (14:25.083) and Bates the bronze (14:32.444). 

The second varsity eight rowed well in the club eight, that had a heavy international and Division I presence.  WPI reached the finish line in a time of 16:09.018 to place 25th, just ahead of Fordham (16:17.512), UMass (16:21.845) and Boston College (16:28.806).  BU won the 36-boat event on Sunday in a time of 14:32.582.   

WPI closes out the 2017 fall season on Saturday, October 28th competing at the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, NY.
