Men's Rowing Selected to Inaugural IRA DIII National Championship

WORCESTER -- WPI's men's rowing's varsity eight has earned a spot in the first-ever Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship Regatta during the first weekend in June.  The two-day Division III portion of the regatta will take place on Friday, June 3rd, and Saturday, June 4th on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey. 

The IRA National Championship is the oldest college rowing championship in the United States.  Seven teams were selected to the inaugural event, including three automatic bids, a slot for teams without access to automatic bids, and three at-large selections. #7 Washington College (MARC), #1 Williams (NESCAC #1), and #3 Bates (NESCAC #2) earned the automatic bids while the #5 Engineers were selected from a group that included #11 Coast Guard, Skidmore, and Gordon.  At-large teams included in the field were #2 Tufts, #4 Trinity, and #8 Hamilton  

On Friday, June 3rd the seven crews will race for lane placement in Saturday's June 4th championship final. Times and lane assignments will be released in the next few weeks.
