WORCESTER -- For the second straight season, WPI's men's rowing has earned an invitation to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship Regatta during the first weekend in June. The two-day Division III portion of the championship will be on Friday, June 2nd, and Saturday, June 3rd on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey.
The Engineers participated in last year's inaugural Division III championship and is joined by repeat selections Williams, Tufts, Bates, Trinity and first-timers Adrian, St. Lawrence and Wesleyan. A new wrinkle in 2023 will feature both a varsity eight and a second varsity eight race as last year's event only featured a V8 event. A year ago, the Crimson and Gray rowed to a fourth-place finish in the heats and a sixth-place showing in the grand final.
The varsity eight will compete in the second of two heats at 10am versus Tufts, St. Lawrence and Wesleyan while all seven boats (Adrian does not have a 2V) will race at 1:40pm for lane placement in Saturday's second varsity eight champ final at 11:50am. Additionally, the varsity eight petite final is scheduled for 11:20am Saturday with the grand final slated for noon.
