Ciampa's Big Day Helps Men's Soccer Knock Off Anna Maria

Chris Ciampa

Worcester, MA --- WPI freshman Chris Ciampa (Danvers, MA) had two goals and two assists in his second collegiate contest, helping the Engineers to a 6-0 win over Anna Maria College on Clark's Turf Field in the opening game of the 2010 Worcester City Men's Soccer Tournament.

In addition to Ciampa, junior Kevin Ducharme (Bedford, NH) recorded a pair of goals and senior Mike Ford (Whitman, MA) added a pair of assists to help give WPI their third straight win in the tournament dating back to 2009. Those three victories have come by a combined score of 13-0.

The Engineers wasted little time scoring as Ciampa set up Keeon Tabrizi (Harvard, MA) less than six minutes into the contest.

Ciampa was back at it again less than 20 minutes later when he served up a ball that Chris LaBarre (Southwick, Mass.) sent to the back of the net.

WPI was right back at it in the early moments of the second half as Ford sent a ball into the box that Ducharme headed home for a 3-0 Engineer advantage.

Ciampa would score the next two goals with help from Ford and Steve Partridge (Worcester, Mass.) to increase the WPI edge to 5-0.

The Engineers final goal came courtesy of a corner kick as Matt Rosen (Branford, Conn.) played a perfect ball to Ducharme for his second score of the game at the 70:48 mark.

WPI netminders Paul Moan (Watertown, Mass.) and Kirk Dragsbaek (Sherborn, Mass.) each made two saves to record the shutout.

Anna Maria backstops Eric Perkins (Peabody, Mass.) and Mike Dandurand (Warwick, R.I.) combined to make five stops, despite being peppered with 19 WPI shots.

The tournament continues on Sunday at Becker as the Engineers face off with the host Hawks at 2:30pm and Clark faces the AMCATS at noon.  In Friday's other contest, Clark shutout Becker 4-0.
