Worcester, MA --- Chris Ciampa (Danvers, MA) collected an unassisted goal - his fifth marker of the season - in the 15th minute to help the WPI men's soccer team to a 1-0 shutout over host Salve Regina on Thursday evening. With the win, the Engineers improve to 8-1 on the season and push their winning streak to four games with the last three victories by identical 1-0 scores. The Seahawks are now 4-4-1.
WPI goalkeeper Jeff Wong (Millington, NJ), the reigning NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week, made five saves en route to posting his fourth shutout of 2011. Kyle Kureczka (Berlin, CT) made three stops for Salve Regina.
For the game, SRU owns a 12-7 edge in shot and took all four corner kicks.
Both teams return conference play on Saturday. WPI heads to Babson where they will play the nightcap of a rare men's and women's doubleheader with the Beavers. Kickoff for the men is schedule for 2:30pm after a noon kickoff for the women. Salve Regina entertains Endicott the same day at 3:30pm.
