Norton, MA --- Eric Crevoiserat (Glastonbury, CT) scored in the sixth minute and Connor Hoeckele (Granby, CT) stopped a pair of shots as third-seeded WPI advanced to the NEWMAC Men's Soccer Championship title match with a 1-0 triumph over second-seeded Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon at Keefe Field. It will be the Engineers first title match appearance in the NEWMAC era.

WPI, seventh in the NCAA Division III New England Regional Rankings, improves to 14-4 while Coast Guard dips to 13-2-3.  The Engineers return to Wheaton tomorrow at 1pm to face fourth-seeded Babson, who defeated Wheaton, 2-0, earlier in the day, for the conference championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament. Coast Guard, ranked third in the same regional poll, now awaits a potential NCAA bid.

Crevoiserat lobbed a header past the Bears goalkeeper following a pass from Zach Chapman (Groveland, MA) at 5:14.  Tynan MacLeod (Groton, MA) tested Richie Burns (Long Beach, CA) in the 13th minute and later in the 77th minute. Coast Guard's Trey Chamberlain (Stockton, NJ) had his attempt halted by Hoeckele in the 31st minute.

The Bears looked to tie it late courtesy of a pair of headers by Brad McNeil (Antioch, CA). The best of the two chances came at 83:23 when McNeil's bid, which made the WPI crowd hold their breath, went wide.

Burns also finished with a pair of saves on the afternoon as Ryan Dandan (Trophy Club, TX) joined McNeil and Chamberlain with a pair of shots for the Bears.

Coast Guard held a slim 11-10 edge in shots while WPI, who registered its 11th shutout of the season, took the lone corner kick in the contest.
