Junior Duos Shine in Men’s Soccer’s 1-1 Double OT Tie With Coast Guard

WORCESTER – Junior goalkeepers Connor Hoeckele (Granby, CT) and Jake Sorenson (Oakdale, CT) stopped a total of seven shots in a 1-1 tie between WPI and visiting Coast Guard in a NEWMAC men's soccer matchup Saturday at Alumni Stadium.

The Engineers are now 7-2-4 and the Bears are 8-3-2. Both teams sport a 2-2-1 record in league play.

Both goals came in the first half. WPI stuck first when Anthony Vigliotta (Beverly, MA) lofted the ball to the top left corner of the net in the 4th minute. Coast Guard evened it up in the 32nd as Ryan Dandan (Trophy Club, TX) found the top left corner from 25-yards out.

In all, the Bears had the advantage in shots (12-10), including the lone attempt in the extra session, and corner kicks (8-3).

WPI heads to Fitchburg State Wednesday for a 4pm start while Coast Guard entertains Mass. Maritime Tuesday at 7pm.
