Four From Men’s Soccer Net Goals to Remain Unbeaten in NEWMAC

WORCESTER – WPI scored three second half goals in a 4-0 victory over visiting Emerson Saturday night in a NEWMAC Men's Soccer match in Alumni Stadium.

The Engineers improve to 7-3 and 3-0 as the Lions move to 3-6-1 and 0-3.

The first was netted at 72:42 by sophomore Mark Calnan (Winchester, MA) off a cross from junior Frank Ciliberto (Spencerport, NY). Sophomore Liam Setterlund (Holden, MA) scored his first of the year with help from senior Ryan Stokes (Fairport, NY) at 86:57. With 31 seconds left, junior Spencer Ralphs (Simsbury, CT) drove down the field and beat the keeper for the 4-0 final.

Sophomore Matt Mulligan (Columbia, CT) scored his first on Boynton Hill back in the 33rd minute as he carried the ball down the field and found the bottom left open.

Senior Connor Hoeckele (Granby, CT) stopped three shots in 78-plus minutes and classmate Jordan Finzel (Northport, NY) was not called upon to make a save, but did make a leaping catch for the Crimson and Gray. WPI kept Emerson senior Lucas Fischer (Atlanta, GA), who made 12 saves, active all night with a number of diving stops.

WPI owned a wide margin in shots (29-4), shots on-goal (16-3) and corner kicks (12-4). Junior Joao Vieira (Rio de Janiero, Brazil), junior Paul Bou Aziz (Nice, France) and sophomore Gavin Faucette (Oakland, CA) each accounted for an aim at the net for Emerson.

WPI returns to the pitch Tuesday with a trip to Boston for a 7pm appointment with Wentworth, The Lions travel to Eastern Nazarene for a 7:30 start on Monday.
