Conroy Nets Goal, Adds Assist as Men’s Soccer Tops Mass. Maritime To Open Homestand

WORCESTER -- Junior Jackson Conroy (Reading, MA) registered a goal and an assist as WPI sailed past Mass. Maritime, 5-0, in a non-conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon inside Alumni Stadium.

The Engineers (4-0) also received goals from senior Spencer Ralphs (Simsbury, CT), junior Mark Calnan (Winchester, MA), junior Brandon Hima (Watertown, CT) and junior Liam Setterlund (Holden, MA). Senior Jake Steinberg (Shrewsbury, MA) also chipped in with an assist.

Ralphs struck first at 18:04. Conroy followed at 26:07. Calnan made it 3-0 when he sent in a long shot that was deflected by the keeper and trickled over the line at 34:38. Hima and Setterlund scored nearly 10 minutes apart in the second half.

Sophomore Rufus Adams (Duxbury, MA) halted a pair of shots in nearly 65 minutes of action. Freshmen Pat Flaherty (Norwood, MA) and Tyler Stack (Billerica, MA) were not called upon to make a save in the balance of the contest.

Buccaneer (1-1-1) junior Andrew Wayrynen (Rockport, MA) took a pair of shots, including one on-net, as sophomore Brady Lemmon (California, MD) accounted for a shot on-goal as well. Freshman Mitch Hardy (Pepperell, MA) and sophomore Kevin Lynch (Dedham, MA) each stopped a pair of shots in their respective 45 minute shift.

The Crimson and Gray, who were awarded all eight corner kicks, took all seven shots before the break and ended with a 13-3 advantage on the day.

WPI continues a six-game homestand Wednesday with a 7pm test against preseason No. 4 Brandeis. Mass. Maritime returns to Central Mass. Wednesday for a 4pm meeting at Nichols.
