WORCESTER -- WPI's Ben Rickson (West Warren, MA) and MIT's Garrett Souza (Chino Hills, CA) each registered goals as the two teams played to a 1-1 double overtime draw in a NEWMAC men's soccer contest played at WPI's Alumni Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Worcester's Engineers, ranked fourth in most recent United Soccer Coaches New England top 10 and receiving votes in the a pair of national top 25 polls, are now 5-1-2 overall and 0-0-2 in conference action.  The visitors move to 4-3-1 on the season are in 0-1-1 versus NEWMAC foes.

The opening half hour featured minimal chances for both teams until WPI sustained pressure with a sequence that saw a goal waived off and three corners, the last of which was sent beautifully through the box by Frank Ciliberto (Spencerport, NY).  The bouncing ball found the head of Ben Rickson (West Warren, MA), who found the back of the net from five yards out for this first goal of the year at 29:16.

MIT's best opportunity of the first stanza came over five minutes later as Wesley Woo (Palo Alto, CA) had a shot blocked by a WPI defense and Issac Perper's rebound bid was stopped by a diving save from Rufus Adams (Duxbury, MA).

Souza has a memorable second half as he helped clear a rebound shot by Ciliberto off the line in the 69th minute before toeing in a long pass from Thad Daguilh (Port-au Prince, Haiti) ten minutes later to even the scoreboard.  The hosts had a chance to retake the late in the 81st minute but here denied when Carlos Hernandez (Weston, FL) calmly cleared Spencer Ralphs' (Simsbury, CT) header off the goal line.

Adams and MIT's Jeremy Cowham (Quincy, MA) both made six stops in net on the day as WPI enjoyed a 21-15 edge in shots and an 11-6 advantage in corner kicks attempted.
