Westwood, MA – WPI junior Franco Bazzini (San Juan, PR) has been selected as the NEWMAC Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, September 12th.
Bazzini decided two games within the span of only 16 seconds last week. The first-deciding goal was marked in 98th minute of action versus Brandeis last Wednesday which resulted in a 1-0 victory, propelling the Crimson and Gray to a 2-0 record. The junior midfielder tallied five total shots which led the way for the Engineers on the evening.
Just 16 seconds into the contest on Saturday against Endicott, Bazzini found the back of the net again by converting on a penalty kick that led to a 2-0 victory over the Gulls. Franco posted a trio of shots on the afternoon as WPI moved on to 3-0 for the start of the 2021 season.
After garnering the Offensive Athlete of the Week award, Bazzini becomes the first Engineer to be selected since Luke Reiniger, dating back to November 4th of 2019.
WPI hosts St. Joseph's (ME) tomorrow at 7pm, followed by a back-to-back on Saturday into Sunday against Coast Guard at 11am, and Skidmore at 2pm.
