Beverly, MA --- The WPI men's soccer squad posted a strong day at Hempstead Stadium as the Engineers took down the hosting Gulls 3-1 in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The Engineers keep the undefeated streak alive as they move up to 2-0-2 on the season, Endicott drops to 2-2-1 with the home loss.
Senior back Luke Savoie (Mansfield, MA) marked the first goal on the day in the 29th minute with an unassisted goal after the ball hit off of Endicott's Kevin Pelletier (Topsfield, MA) hands for the finish to go up 1-0. After a trio of shots from Matthew McLellan (Hopedale, MA), Aidan McLoughlin (Colchester, CT), and Christopher Martenson (Westport, CT); Mason Perham (Hampden, MA) fed a ball to Anthony Previte (Andover, MA) who got by his defender and placed a ball in the right corner to extend the lead to 2-0 going into the intermission.
In the second half, Evan Hallberg (Glocester, RI) found Aaron Vaz (Medford, MA) on a long clear to eventually feed into the box for a Francesco Valagussa (Arlington, MA) finish to push the lead to three in the 54th minute of play. Endicott's Joe Akisik (Sudbury, MA) crossed to Tiago Frazao (Trumbull, CT) for a tap-in goal to shorten the deficit to 3-1, marking the final decision on the afternoon.
WPI travels to Providence to take on the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales tomorrow at 2:30 pm and Endicott hits the road for an away contest at Salem State on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7 pm.
