Hendrick Notches Seven Saves as WPI Men's Soccer Begins NEWMAC Play with 0-0 Deadlock

Team Huddle - WPI Men's Soccer 2022

WORCESTER -- WPI men's soccer finished in a scoreless stalemate as they opened conference play on Saturday afternoon at Coast Guard.

With the tie, the Engineers are now 2-1-3 on the season and the Bears of New London continue an unbeaten start (4-0-1).

Both goalkeepers were tested early as the Crimson and Gray and the hosting Bears posted six shots within the first 45 minutes of play. Luke Savoie (Manfield, MA), Codey Battista (Northbridge, MA), Anthony Previte (Andover, MA) and Ryan Dalton (Staten Island, NY) all had striking chances but were stopped by Coast Guard's Max Pfleghar (Fairfield, CT) who posted four saves in the first half en route to marking five saves on the afternoon. In between the pipes on the opposite side, Roe Hendrick (Nashua, NH) marked a trio of saves in the opening half to keep the Bears off the board.

Hendrick continued stellar play steering away four second half Bears opportunities to end the day with seven saves as Aaron Vaz (Medford, MA) had the final strike at goal in the 83rd minute of action as it was saved by Pfleghar resulting in a 0-0 finish in New London.

WPI closes out a six-game road trip on Tuesday, venturing to Roger Williams for a 7pm match.  Coast Guard plays host to local rival Mitchell on Wednesday at 7pm.
