North Adams, MA --- WPI Softball split its third straight doubleheader on Monday afternoon, belting out 13 hits in a 10-3 win in the opener versus host MCLA before falling 8-7 on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning of the nightcap. The Engineers are now 14-15 on the season while the Trailblazers see their record move to 9-11.
The Crimson and Gray jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning highlighted by an Amanda Martori (Haverhill, MA) RBI single and a Kelly Johnson (Buxton, ME) two-run triple. Two innings later WPI pushed across two more runs on a Erin Beaulieu (Bethany, CT) run-scoring single and a Sarah Johnson (Eastham, MA) RBI fielder’s choice. The Engineers put the game away for good with a three-run seventh that featured an Allie Roach (Chelmsford, MA) RBI single.
Sophomore Allie Hardy (West Townsend, MA)
picked up her third win in as many days. The righthander
yielded just three hits and one run in five innings en route to
pushing her record to 6-4 on the season. Meg

Martori with two hits while Sarah Johnson led all players with 3
Game two was a wild back-and-forth affair with WPI scoring three runs with two outs and no one on in the top of the seventh to seize a 7-6 lead only to see the hosts rally for two runs in the bottom of the frame to steal the walk-off win. Katherine Fitton (Lebanon, CT) smacked three extra bases hits, including a homer and a pair of doubles. The freshman, who was tagged with the loss in relief (1-1), scored three runs while classmate Courtney Rosales (Ipswich, MA) came off the bench to deliver two hits. Martori added to the WPI attack with a pair of RBI.
WPI is back in action on Wednesday, hosting city rival Worcester State in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3pm.
