  • Juarez Walks Off, Caps Five-Run Rally as Softball Secures Sweep of Bridgewater State
    April 17, 2019
    WORCESTER – Junior Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA) struck out nine in game one and senior Kylie Juarez (Elk Grove, CA) went 4-for-4, including the game-ending single, in game two as WPI swept Bridgewater State, 6-1 and 6-5, in a pair of non-conference softball games Wednesday evening on Rooftop Field.
  • Ambrosino Earns Second NEWMAC Softball Athlete of the Week Honor

    Westwood, MA --- WPI freshman Lindsay Ambrosino (Chelmsford, MA) has been selected as the NEWMAC Softball Co-Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon. It is the second time Ambrosino has been honored by the conference this month.
  • Ambrosino, Gonzales Keep Hot-Hitting Softball Rolling with Sweep Over Smith

    WORCESTER -- A hot-hitting stretch that started in Friday’s doubleheader at Coast Guard continued into Saturday afternoon as WPI softball put up a combined 26 runs for a second straight day, sweeping Smith, 9-4 and 17-3, at Rooftop Field on Senior Day. 
  • McCasland and Wood Brilliant as Softball Takes Two From Coast Guard
    April 12, 2019
    New London, CT --- Freshman Hailey McCasland (Wrentham, MA) went 3-for-3 in both games while senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) was 3-for-3 in the nighcap and totaled three home runs on the day as WPI held off Coast Guard, 15-10, in game one and ended the second game early with an 11-1 (5 inn.) triumph in a NEWMAC softball doubleheader Friday afternoon. Sophomore Katie Martin (Bedford, NH) allowed one run on six hits and zero walks while striking out four in the complete-game victory in game two.

    WORCESTER -- Senior Caraline Wood hit a walk-off single in the opening game of Saturday afternoon’s doubleheader against Babson at Rooftop Field, but the Beavers got WPI back in the second game as the Engineers suffered their first loss of the season in NEWMAC play.

    WORCESTER – Sophomore Katie Martin (Bedford, NH) struck out eight and freshman Lindsay Ambrosino (Chelmsford, MA) connected on a three-run homer in game one while senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) and sophomore Nicole Kuberka (Los Angeles, CA) each homered in game two as the WPI softball team extended its winning streak to eight games with a 5-2 and 9-5 victory over visiting Clark Friday on Rooftop Field.

    WORCESTER – Junior Cassie Graca (Somerset, MA) batted 3-for-3 in game one and freshman Lindsay Ambrosino (Chelmsford, MA) notched a trio of hits in game two as the WPI softball team defeated city rival Worcester State, 15-2 (5 inn.) and 8-0, Wednesday at Raymond Diamond.
  • Gonzales and Wood Help Key Pair of Wins to Keep Softball Unbeaten in NEWMAC

    Springfield, MA --- Sophomore Marissa Gonzales (Oakley, CA) went 6-for-8 with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored as WPI remained unbeaten in NEWMAC softball action with 7-5 and 8-3 (6 inn.) triumphs Tuesday at Springfield. Senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) collected five RBI in the second game.
  • Phillips and Ambrosino Sweep NEWMAC Softball Weekly Awards

    Westwood, MA --- WPI junior Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA) and freshman Lindsay Ambrosino (Chelmsford, MA) were recognized as the NEWMAC Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively. It is the second time the Engineers have swept the awards this season as the duo joins Caraline Wood and Katie Martin who were lauded on March 11.
  • Ambrosino, Phillips Send Softball to Doubleheader Victory Over Wheaton

    Norton, MA -- WPI softball maintained its unbeaten record in the NEWMAC as junior Mackenzie Phillips picked up both wins in a doubleheader sweep over Wheaton, 6-2 and 6-4, at Clark Field on Saturday afternoon.  Phillips started the opener, allowing two runs and four hits, and striking out four over six innings, and then came on to toss three scoreless innings in relief in the nightcap as the Engineers put together a four-run rally in the seventh inning.  
  • Weather Derails Softball's Doubleheader at Springfield on Friday

    WORCESTER --- Friday’s scheduled NEWMAC softball doubleheader between visiting WPI and Springfield was postponed due to rain and wet field conditions. The two teams have tentatively rescheduled the twinbill for Sunday, March 31st at 11am (weather permitting).

    Amherst, MA --- Senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) homered to give WPI the lead and classmate Renee LeClaire (Merrimack, NH) was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs in a 6-1 victory over host Amherst in game one while the Mammoths walked off with the nightcap, 3-2, as the teams split a non-conference softball doubleheader Wednesday.

    WORCESTER – Sophomore Marissa Gonzales (Oakley, CA) batted 4-for-5 on the day and junior Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA) struck out five in a two-hitter as the WPI softball team swept Emerson, 7-3 and 8-0 (5 inn.), Sunday afternoon on Rooftop Field. Junior Cassie Graca (Somerset, MA) stole five bases.

    Westwood, MA --- WPI senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) and sophomore Katie Martin (Bedford, NH) swept the NEWMAC softball weekly awards, as revealed Monday afternoon. Wood collected her second career athlete of the week nod while Martin earned her first pitcher of the week honor.

    Titusville, FL --- Sophomore Nicole Kuberka (Los Angeles, CA) went 3-for-4 against Ohio Northern while senior Renee LeClaire (Merrimack, NH) batted 7-for-7 on the day as the Engineers defeated St. John Fisher (NY), 10-4, and the Polar Bears, 5-1, on the final day of the Sunkissed Games.

    Plant City, FL --- WPI softball junior Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA) struck out eight in a 5-0 triumph over Heidelberg before the Engineers were edged by Muskingum, 3-2, in eight innings Friday at the Sunkissed Games.

    Plant City, FL --- Senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) batted 6-for-9 with four extra-base hits, including a grand slam, on the day while the Engineers accumulated 18 hits in the second game as WPI defeated Saint Joseph’s (ME), 9-2, and Ohio Northern, 14-2 (6 inn.), Thursday at the Sunkissed Games.
  • Wood and Graca Shine in Softball’s Setbacks Versus Illinois College and No. 20 Saint Benedict

    Plant City, FL --- WPI senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) was 2-for-3 in Softball’s 3-2 setback to Illinois College and junior Cassie Graca (Somerset, MA) batted 2-for-3 in a 5-1 defeat by nationally-ranked Saint Benedict (MN) Wednesday at the Sunkissed Games.
  • LeClaire Goes 3-4 in Opener but Randolph & Penn State Behrend Sink Softball

    Plant City, FL --- Senior Renee LeClaire (Merrimack, NH) went 3-for-4 with one of WPI’s RBI as the softball team was defeated by Randolph, 9-2, Tuesday afternoon at the Sunkissed Games. The Engineers were then upended by Penn State Behrend, 3-2, Tuesday evening.
  • Rain Postpones Softball, Pushes Back Baseball in Florida

    WORCESTER -- While Worcester was dealing with a foot of snow on Monday, it was rain that causing issues for WPI softball and baseball in Florida.  Early morning rains forced the postponement of two softball games Monday afternoon at the Randy Larson Softball Complex in Plant City while baseball saw its doubleheader with Waynesburg (PA) pushed back from a 10:30am start to a 1:30pm first pitch in Auburndale.

    Titusville, FL --- Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA) tossed a two-hitter in the season opener and Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) hit .750 (6-for-8) with a pair of doubles, a home run and four RBI on the day as WPI defeated Simmons, 3-1, and Bluffton (OH), 9-1, Sunday at the Sunkissed Games.

    Indianapolis, IN --- Recent WPI women's basketball and softball student-athlete Ama Biney '18 was recognized as one of the top graduating student-athletes across all three NCAA divisions in 2017-18 with her selection for the NCAA Today's Top 10 Award, which was presented by head coaches Cherise Galasso and Whitney Goldstein Wednesday night at the national convention in Orlando, FL.

    WORCESTER – Freshman Katie Martin (Bedford, NH) spun a three-hit shutout with one walk and a season-best seven strikeouts in game one and sophomore Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA) fanned a season-best eight batters and went 5 1/3 before yielding the lone Clark hit in game two as WPI blanked the Cougars with identical 7-0 scores Thursday in a NEWMAC Softball doubleheader at O'Brien Field. Freshman Nicole Kuberka (Los Angeles, CA) struck out three in the final two innings.
