Softball’s Ambrosino and Lum Tabbed NFCA DIII Region II First Team

NFCA All-Region Lindsay Ambrosino Destiny Lum - WPI Softball 2023

Louisville, KY – WPI softball's Lindsay Ambrosino (Chelmsford, MA) and Destiny Lum (Kahalu'u, HI) were selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NCAA Division III Region II first team announced on Friday.

Ambrosino, a 2023 All-NEWMAC second team selection, tallied 47 hits and 41 runs scored including nine doubles, five triples, and four homers leading to 25 RBI. Among the NEWMAC, the graduate shortstop ranked third in runs, first in triples, 10th in home runs, and fourth in stolen bases. Ambrosino concluded her time in the Crimson and Gray with a .388 batting average, and top-10 conference marks in on-base percentage (.476) and slugging percentage (.645) in graduate season with a NEWMAC Softball Athlete of the Week accolade in mid-April.

Lum led the Crimson and Gray in hits (52), doubles (14), RBI (49) and home runs (8) with the fourth-most runs scored (19) in 128 plate appearances this spring. The rookie standout recorded a .406 batting average, good for ninth in the NEWMAC, along with a .444 on-base percentage and NEWMAC-leading .703 slugging percentage. Lum ranked seven in the league in hits and doubles, second in RBI, and shared the most homers in 40 games for the Engineers.  The All-NEWMAC first teamer pocketed a pair of NEWMAC Softball Athlete of the Week honors in April.

The Engineers (20-20, 11-7 NEWMAC) were one of 52 programs to have two student-athletes selected to the 2023 NFCA All-Region squads among 373 student-athletes from 174 schools who comprise the 2023 all-region honorees. This year's selections mark back-to-back seasons with multiple members of the Crimson and Gray earning regional recognition as Katie Martin '22 and Shaina Lazarus (Thousand Oaks, CA) were listed on the All-Region II team last spring.

All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA DIII All-America teams which will be announced later in May.
