Women's Swimming and Diving Defeats Colby-Sawyer

New London, NH --- Women's Swimming and Diving had four double winners as they downed Colby-Sawyer 158-102 in a non-conference meet Saturday. Both teams even their record at 1-1 on the young season.

Sophomore Sarah Dinwoodie (East Greenwich, RI) swept the 50-yard (27.07) and 100-yard freestyle (58.89) events, while classmate Heather Peruffo (Poughkeepsie, NY) matched her teammate in the 50-yard (30.31) and 100-yard (1:06.26) backstroke.

Freshman Sonja Kent (West Boylston, MA) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.77) and 400-yard individual medley (5:01.58). Taylor Briseno (Mansfield, MA) took the 50-yard (30.28) and 100-yard butterfly (1:06.20) events for the Crimson and Gray.

Junior Colleen Heckley (Tyngsboro, MA) took the 1000-yard freestyle as she finished with a 12:26.36 time, while Toni LaBella (Warrick, RI) won the 500-yard freestyle (5:57.17)

Engineer freshman Marissa Goerke (San Diego, CA) was the only participant in the one meter diving and scored 138.80.

Dinwoodie and Briseno teamed with sophomore Emily Colpas (Holden, MA) and junior Alana Aubin (Taunton, MA) to win the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:34.43.

Junior Jess Shelsky (Nashua, NH) and Freshman Sarah Meehan (Brewer, ME), joined Dinwoodie and Kent on the 200-yard freestyle relay-winning team who completed their race with a 1:50.53 time.

WPI co-hosts the New England Invitational with Keene State at Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, VT next Saturday at 1pm.
