Women's Swimming and Diving Participates in the New England Invitational

White River Junction, VT --- The WPI women's swimming and diving team ventured to White River Junction, VT on Saturday afternoon to compete in the New England Invitational at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center.  Team scoring was not kept at the five-team event that featured WPI, MIT, Wheaton, Keene State and Assumption. 

Sonja Kent (West Boylston, MA) turned in a fourth place showing in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.87) and a sixth place time in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.99). Alana Aubin (Taunton, MA) posted a trio of top 11 times.  The senior was ninth in 1000-yard freestyle (12:06.46), and 11th in both the 50-yard backstroke (33:26) and 50-yard breaststroke (37:09). 

Kelin Song (Providence, RI) touched the wall in 10th in the 50-yard breaststroke (36.83) after finishing 11th in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:20.64).  Other top individual finishers for the Crimson and Gray on Saturday included Heather Peruffo (Poughkeepsie, NY) in the 50-yard butterfly (11th place - 30.57), Aimee St. Germain (Manchester, NH) in 50-yard breaststroke (12th place - 37:93) and Alex Sanz-Guerrero (Ann Arbor, MI) in the 50-yard backstroke (13th place - 33:69). 

Highlighting the performances of the WPI relay teams was the 400-yard freestyle.  The foursome of Peruffo, Sanz-Gurrero, Kent and Aubin placed sixth in a time of 4:03.50.  The 200-yard medley squad of Peruffo, Song, Aubin and Kent was eighth (2:05.10) while the group of Peruffo, Kent, Sanz-Gurrero and Aubin turning in a time of 1:50.47 en route to finishing ninth in the 200-yard freestyle relay.  The day started with Peruffo, Song, Aubin and Kent finishing 10th in the 400-yard medley in a time of 4:32.36. 

The Engineers are back in the pool next Saturday at NEWMAC rival Babson.  The first gun is scheduled for 1pm.
