Men's Swimming & Diving Sweeps Babson and Brandeis to Move to 3-0

Worcester, MA --- Alex Powers (Glocester, RI), Tim Petri (Eksjo, Sweeden), David Smallwood (Bangor, ME) and Ben List (Bedford, MA) began the afternoon with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay and went on to total five individual wins while Smallwood and List ended the night as part of the quickest 200-yard freestyle relay team to key a WPI sweep of Babson (173-105) and Brandeis (162.5-120.5). Brandeis defeated Babson 152-136. 

The quartet clocked a 1:38.08 in the opening race as Smallwood and List teamed with Frederick Burgwardt (Mendon, NY) and Nathan Hughes (Arlington, VA) to post a 1:28.33 in the final event of the day. Individually, Powers swept the backstroke sprints with a 54.48 in the 100 and a 1:59.85 in the 200 while Petri did the same in the breaststroke sprints as he took 1:00.17 in the 100 and 2:15.03 in the 200. Smallwood touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (52.60) and Hughes collected a victory in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.92). 

Matt Suarez (Needham, MA) took the diving events with a 229.90 on the 1-meter board and a 220.85 on the 3-meter board as Cameron Back (St. Louis, MO) tacked on a win in the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.18). 

Babson's An Truong (West Roxbury, MA), the NEWMAC Swimmer of the Week, took the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.06) and the 200-yard IM (2:01.71). Brandeis' Brian Luk (Hong Kong) swept the 50-yard (22.01) and 100-yard freestyle (48.23) as teammate Max Fabian (Keene, NH) won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:07.72). 

The Engineers (3-0) play host to Coast Guard and Division I Providence on Saturday at 1pm.
