Worcester, MA --- Freshman Jenny Day (Chelmsford, MA) continued her stellar start by winning three events Saturday at the WPI Sports & Recreation Center as the host women's swimming and diving team split a meet against Coast Guard and Providence, beating the Bears, 173.50-120.50, but falling to the Friars, 171-123.
Day took wins in the 200-yard butterfly, (2:13.92), 500-yard freestyle (5:18.83) and 1,000-yard freestyle (11:00.09), while she was also part of the Engineers' second-place 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished in 3:43.67.
The freshman Day accounted for half of WPI's wins, while diver Veronica Nikolaki (Athens, Greece) chipped in two more, as the junior swept the 1-meter dive (259.75) and 3-meter dive (245.60).
Senior Nysa Casha (Andover, MA) had the final Engineers' victory in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.44), and she also pitched in on their second-place 400-yard medley relay team (4:11.40) and the runner-up 400-yard freestyle relay.
Sophomore Emily Martin (Penfield, NY) finished second in both the 100-yard freestyle (54.78) and 200-yard individual medley (2:14.83). Meanwhile, Eva Childers (Henniker, NH) took second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:28.67).
Like Casha, Martin also took place on both of the Engineers' top relay teams.
WPI is back in action away to Roger Williams next Saturday in a 1pm dual meet.
