Nikolaki, Day and 200-Yard Freestyle Relay Shine for Women’s Swimming and Diving at Bowdoin

Brunswick, ME --- The WPI women's swimming and diving team was upended twice on Saturday in a double dual at Bowdoin which also featured conference-power MIT. The Engineers fell to the hosts, 189-111, and were felled by Cambridge's Engineers 227-73.

Senior Veronica Nikolaki (Athens, Greece) was the only Crimson and Gray runner up as she amassed 244.50 points in the 1-meter dive. She also finished fifth on the 3-meter board with a score of 214.95.

Sophomore Jenny Day (Chelmsford, MA) was part of three third-place finishes as she posted a 2:00.86 in the 200-yard freestyle and a 5:19.98 in the 500-yard freestyle and was on the 400-yard freestyle relay squad that teamed up to turn in a 3:48.73. She was joined by junior Emily Martin (Penfield, NY), junior Eva Childers (Henniker, NH) and sophomore Emily Matsco (Windham, NH).

Martin added fourth place efforts in the 50-yard (25.56) and 100-yard (55.87) freestyle as well as the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.06). Matsco also came home fourth in an individual event as she posted a time of 11:23.33 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

Junior Zoe Eggleston (Newtown, CT) touched the wall fourth in the 100-yard (1:12.80) and 200-yard (2:39.67) breaststroke.

The 200-yard medley relay foursome of junior Marissa Patterson (Hampton, NH), Eggleston, Childers and junior Tori Claverie (Derry, NH) was fifth in a time of 1:56.12 as Patterson was also fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.32) and sixth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:20.63).

Day finished sixth in the 200-yard IM (2:18.53) as was sophomore Kaitlin Travers (Northampton, MA) in the 200-yard butterfly (2:21.79).

WPI is idle until the three-day Gompei Invitational beginning on Friday, December 4th.
