Norton, MA --- The 2015-16 WPI women's swimming and diving team tied the program record for single-season wins as the Engineers defeated Wheaton, 164-134, and surged past UMass Dartmouth, 240-43, on Wednesday night. The Crimson and Gray tie the 2012-13 and 1992-93 teams with nine dual meet wins on the season.
Junior Marissa Patterson (Hampton, NH), classmate Zoe Eggleston (Newtown, CT), sophomore Allie Connor (Baldwinsville, NY) and junior Tori Claverie (Derry, NH) got the night started with a winning time of 1:55.83 in the 200-yard medley relay. Patterson went on to finish second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.89) and 200-yard backstroke (2:19.84) as Eggleston won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.81) and was the runner up in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.42). Claverie added a second-place time of 26.25 in the 50-yard freestyle.
Junior Emily Martin (Penfield, NY) earned a pair of individual victories with a time of 2:13.93 in the 200-yard butterfly and a 1:01.69 in the 100-yard butterfly while sophomore Jenny Day (Chelmsford, MA) saw success in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.11) and 500-yard freestyle (5:16.12). Sophomore Emily Matsco (Windham, NH) captured the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:15.26) and junior Eva Childers (Henniker, NH) clocked a 56.73 to secure the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle.
Martin, Day, Childers and sophomore Thea Reymann (Toms River, NJ) closed out the women's portion of the meet with a second-place time of 1:44.07 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Reymann was also the runner up in the 200 IM (2:23.16).
WPI concludes its regular season with a trip to Clark for a 6:30pm meet on Wednesday.
