Women's Swimming and Diving Sets Dual Meet Record in Regular Season Finale at Clark

WORCESTER – The WPI women's swimming and diving team, led by a sweep by Veronica Nikolaki (Athens, Greece), set the program record for wins in a single-season with its 10th triumph in the form of a 129-100 triumph over city and NEWMAC rival Clark Wednesday night in the Kneller Center Pool.

Nikolaki amassed 264 points on the 1-meter board and 248.75 on the 3-meter. Also earning victories were the 200-yard medley relay team of junior Emily Martin (Penfield, NY), junior Zoe Eggleston (Newtown, CT), sophomore Allie Connor (Baldwinsville, NY) and junior Tori Claverie (Derry, NH) in a time of 1:57.32, sophomore Jenny Day (Chelmsford, MA) in the 200-yard IM (2:16.32), sophomore Thea Reymann (Toms River, NJ) in the 100-yard freestyle (57.46) and junior Marissa Patterson (Hampton, NH) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.57). Claverie also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.16) while Patterson was the runner up in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.33).

Junior Heather Stratica (Wappingers Falls, NY) was second in the 200-yard freestyle while sophomore Jamie Freud (Amherst, NH) earned silver in the 500-yard freestyle (5:34.37) and sophomore Emily Matsco (Windham, NH) did the same in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:10.00).

After the Engineers had a firm grip on the meet, sophomore Allysa Grant (Windham, NH) had the best time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.88) as did the 200-yard freestyle relay quartet of Matsco, freshman Kelly Martin (Penfield, NY), Emily Martin and Reymann in a time of 1:45.40

The Engineers now focus on the NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships being held this year at MIT on February 18-21.
