Day has a Night as Women’s Swimming & Diving Edged at D-II SCSU

New Haven, CT --- Junior Jennifer Day (Chelmsford, MA) won a trio of individual events as WPI began a Connecticut road trip at Division II Southern Connecticut State Friday night. The Engineers came up four points short (150-146).

Day delivered victories in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.71), 200-yard butterfly (2:15.28) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.60). She also helped the 200-yard freestyle relay team to a first-place time of 1:41.43. The remainder of the team featured seniors Eva Childers (Henniker, NH), Tori Claverie (Derry, NH) and Emily Martin (Penfield, NY). Martin also added a second-place time of 25.64 in the 50-yard freestyle. Freshman Cailin Gonyea (Southbridge, MA) touched the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:01.89) as senior Zoe Eggleston (Newtown, CT) took the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.27).

Senior Marissa Patterson (Hampton, NH), who was the fastest Engineer in the 100-yard backstroke (third, 1:03.39), teamed with Eggleston, Martin and junior Thea Reymann (Toms River, NJ) handed in a second-place 4:10.17 in the 400-yard medley relay. Reymann went on to post a third place-time of 55.82 in the 100-yard freestyle. Freshmen Carol Wang (Framingham, MA) and Sydney Seo (North Andover, MA) each earned silver in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.63) and 200-yard backstroke (2:18.92), respectively. Junior Hayley Poskus (Middleboro, MA) was the runner up in both diving events.

Freshman Olivia Hanson (Anchorage, AK) was third in the 200-yard IM (2:19.46) and classmate Emma Edwardson (Cary, NC) was fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:38.08).

WPI (3-2) returns to Boynton Hill Saturday following a noon meet at Coast Guard.
