Women’s Swimming & Diving Tips Crosstown Foe Clark in Dual Meet Finale

WORCESTER – The WPI women's swimming & diving team topped crosstown foe Clark, 148-118, in a dual meet Wednesday night in the Sports & Recreation Center.

The Engineers (8-7), who have had a .500 ledger or better the past six seasons, came up one win shy of the record set by last year's team. Clark, meanwhile, slips to 4-3.

Senior Marissa Patterson (Hampton, NH), senior Zoe Eggleston (Newtown, CT), freshman Sofia de Oliveira (Portland, ME) and senior Emily Martin (Penfield, NY) opened the evening with a 1:53.92 to take the 200-yard medley relay. Patterson took the 50-yard backstroke (29.11) as Eggleston claimed the 50- and 100-yard backstrokes with times of 32.20 and 1:10.76. Junior Kristen Bender (Simi Valley, CA) tallied the most points in the 1-meter (252.70) and 3-meter (251.70) dives.

Also earning gold were freshman Emma Edwardson (Cary, NC) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.95), junior Emily Matsco (Windham, NH) in the 100-yard freestyle (48.07), and greshman Sydney Seo (North Andover, MA) in the 100-yard backstroke. Junior Jamie Freud (Amherst, NH) posted the fastest time in the 200-yard IM (2:21.49) and was the runner up in the 50-yard freestyle.

Freshman Jillian Clemente (Killingworth, CT) handed in a pair of individual runner up times of 1:02.68 in the 100-yard butterfly and 5:29.31 in the 500-yard freestyle. She was also on the second-quickest 200-yard freestyle relay (1:47.53) with senior Julia Bushell (Windham, NH), Freud and freshman Cailin Gonyea (Southbridge, MA). Freshmen Olivia Hanson (Anchorage, AK) and Carol Wang (Framingham, MA) earned silver in the 1,000-yard freestyle and 50-yard butterfly, respectively.

Engineers host the Tech Sprints Sunday beginning with the trials at 9am and concluding with finals at 4pm. Clark entertains Brandeis Saturday at 1pm.
