Jack Bauer, Tim Petri Highlight NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships Day 3

Shenandoah, TX --- Sophomore Jack Bauer (Cumberland, RI) earned All-America honors in the 100-yard backstroke on the third day of the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships being held at the Conroe ISD Natatorium.

The Engineers are 16th of 47 scoring teams with 52 points.

Bauer, who set the record in the 100 back (48.66) last night as part of a relay, was sixth in the morning swim with a 48.82 and posted a seventh-place 49.02 in the final. His Friday times were .44 and .24 better than his NEWMAC championship, and meet record time, of 49.26.

The 800 free relay was ninth after the morning heats of the timed final with a 6:46.13. After the lone evening heat, the foursome of senior Andrew Bauer (Cumberland, RI), Jack Bauer, junior Karim Elsayed (Cairo, Egypt) and senior Seth MacDonald (Sherrill, NY) landed 17th.

Senior Tim Petri (Eksjö, Sweden) set a new school record in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.24) to place 20th in the trials. Senior Seth MacDonald (Sherrill, NY), meanwhile, finished the 200-yard butterfly 24th in a time of 1:51.52.

The 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke and 400-yard freestyle relay are on the docket for the final day of competition.
