Men’s Swimming & Diving Enjoys Successful Saturday, 16th Place Finish at NCAAs

Shenandoah, TX --- All three WPI entries earned honorable mention All-America accolades on the final day of the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at the CISD Natatorium.

The four-day competition saw the Engineers place 16th of 52 scoring teams, and fourth in New England, with 72 points.

Senior Andrew Bauer (Cumberland, RI) got the evening session off to a great start with a runner up finish (10th overall) in the 100-yard freestyle consolation final with a school-record time of 44.59. He was 11th in the trials with a 44.96. Senior Tim Petri (Eksjö, Sweden) broke the 200-yard breaststroke record twice with 10th-place finishes in both sessions in times of 2:01.09 and 2:01.01. He was edged out of ninth by .42 seconds.

Bauer, junior Karim Elsayed (Cairo, Egypt), senior Frederick Burgwardt (Mendon, NY), senior Andrew Kelleher (Poughquag, NY) collaborated for a 15th-place 3:02.17 to gain entry in the evening session of the 400-yard freestyle relay where they finished 14th (3:02.61).
