Women’s Swimming and Diving Takes Second at Worcester City Championships

WORCESTER ---  The WPI women's swimming and diving team had a solid season opening meet, placing second overall at the Worcester City Championships at home on Saturday. The Engineers finished with 550 points, just off the pace of Division-I Holy Cross's total of 699. Clark was third with 272 points. 

The Engineers were led by senior Katherine Pawlak (Westford, MA) and freshman Willa Royce-Roll (Ithaca, NY) who each grabbed an individual win and tallied three podium finishes. Pawlak won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.84, while taking second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.84) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (54.46). 

Morgan Foltz (North Easton, MA) posted an individual win for the Engineers in the 100-yard freestyle, taking the title in a time of 54.31, while also finishing second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.56). Chonlada DiMascolo (Puyallup, WA) wrapped the list of Engineers with multiple podium finishes, taking second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.94) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.90). 

WPI finished in the top three in all four relay events, paced by its first-ever win in the 200-yard medley relay. Leah Kolb (Canton, MI) led off the relay, followed by Pawlak, Royce-Roll and Foltz who finished in 1:51.76. 

Also landing on the podium for the Crimson and Gray were Molly Sykes (Falmouth, MA) and Elinor Ross (Brandon, VT). Sykes was third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.30), while Ross took third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.11). 

Sarah Johnson (Bridgewater, MA) was WPI's top finisher in the diving events, placing fifth on the one-meter board (162.35) and seventh on the three-meter (165.85). 

WPI hits the water again on November 5, hosting a five-team meet at home at 6:30PM. The Engineers will square off against Babson, Brandeis, Simmons, and Smith at the event.
