Pawlak Has Another Record Setting Day for Women's Swimming at Day Three of NEWMACs

Cambridge, MA --- Another day and another school record for Katherine Pawlak (Westford, MA) who reset the 100 Fly record twice en route to a fourth-place finish and NCAA B time on Day Three of the NEWMAC Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.  

After three days of competition, the Engineers currently sit in fifth place with 370.5 points accumulated.  MIT and Wheaton remain 1-2 in the team standings with 912.50 and 633 points respectively but the next four spots - Springfield (431) Coast Guard (435), WPI (370.50), and Wellesley (353.50) - are separated by less than 80 points.  

Pawlak, who began the day with a 56.81 finish in the prelims to earn a spot in the A final, cut three-quarters of a second off of her time for the fourth place spot in the finals. In addition, she swam the second leg of the 200 Medley relay helping her teammates to a fifth-place finish to round out the night.  

Joining Pawlak in the 100 Fly finals was Morgan Foltz (North Easton, MA) who finished 14th with a time of 59.24. 

The finals kicked off with the 400 IM which featured an eighth-place finish from Molly Sykes (Falmouth, MA) in 4:40.82 as well as a 16th place finish from Sarah MacDonald (Yorktown Heights, NY) who touched the wall in 4:50.30.

Following the 100 Fly, Chonlada DiMascolo (Puyallup, WA) and Keira Franz (Colorado Springs, CO) took part in the  200 Free A finals finishing in seventh (1:56.02) and ninth (1:56.94) respectively. Kimberly Hazeltine (Stratham, NH), Kristina MacLeod (Jackson Hole, WY), and Monika Nowak (Longmeadow, MA) took part in the B final as Hazeltine led that pack of Engineers with a 15th place finish in 1:58.88 while MacLeod earned 19th in 2:00.38 and Nowak finished 20th in 2:00.98 to add more points to the WPI total. 

Leah Kolb (Canton, MI) took home sixth in the 100 Back, the Engineers' final individual competition of the night on the women's side, with a time of 58.59 while Foltz brought home a 16th place finish in 59.65 and Jenn Brownell (Spring, TX) finished 20th in 1:00.82.  

The 200 Medley relay team of Brownell, Pawlak, Sykes, and Kolb combined for a fifth finish, touching the wall in 1:48.22.  

Upcoming on the final day of action at the NEWMAC Championships on Sunday are the 1650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 3-meter diving, and the 400 Free Relay.
