Women's Swimming and Diving Falls to Southern Connecticut, 158-139

New Haven, CT --- In a Friday night meet, to kick off a weekend of swimming, the WPI women's swimming team fell in a dual meet at Southern Connecticut State, 158-139.  

The women's squad came away with eight first place finishes at the meet, touching the wall first in half of the events on the night.  

WPI won the first two events during the meet beginning with a 3 meter dive victory for Katrina Yurista (Laramie, WY), her first victory of the year, earning a 205.40 score. The team followed that up with a 200 Medley Relay win to begin the swim portion of the night as Leah Kolb (Canton, MI), Elinor Ross (Brandon, VT), Molly Sykes (Falmouth, MA) and Morgan Foltz (North Easton, MA) touched the wall in 1:52.63.  

After the 1,000 Free, Lada DiMascolo (Puyallup, WA) picked up her first freestyle victory of the night with a 1:59.78 finish in the 200 Free followed by a Kolb win in the 100 Bac in 1:00.19 and a Ross victory in the 100 Breast in 1:10.65.  

The 50 Free marked a 1-2-3 finish for the Engineers with Andrea Wu (Redmond, WA) touching first in 25.41, Kolb second in 25.77 and Ross third in 26.33.  

Yurista landed on the podium again with a second place finish in the one-meter dive with a score of 197.90, followed by a third place finish from Madeleine Hoffman (Sudbury, MA).  

Foltz continued the winning ways with a 55.53 finish in the 100 Free followed by a Kolb win in the 200 Back in 2:14.74.  

Sykes (2:35.95), Dimascolo (5:22.15), Wu (1:00.37) and Sykes (2:18.65) again all finished second in the 200 Breast, 500 Free, 100 Fly and 200 IM respectively before the Engineers finished the meet on a high note with a 1-2 finish in the 200 Free Relay as Foltz, Dimascolo, Sykes and Wu finished first in 3:41.49. The second group of WPI swimmers in Kristina MacLeod (Jackson Hole, WY), Yurista, Kaitlyn Grove (Cheshire, CT) and Anna Callaghan (Yorktown Heights, NY) touched in 3:56.80.  

The Engineers are back at it in a tri meet with MIT at Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon beginning at Noon while Southern Connecticut returns to the pool at Yale on Tuesday, December 8 at 4pm.
